This weekend (10.16.2010) Brooklynite Gallery is hosting Sten & Lex along with Gaia.

This should be a sweet show and worth checking out (especially since as of this moment, there is no rain due for Saturday). So come down. Our good friends at BSA (BrooklynStreetArt) and our partner in art Billi Kid joined forces along with a few of their friends to create I HEART HAITI fundraiser shirt. This Billi Kid designed shirt will have 100%...yes..100% go toward helping the people of Haiti.

We support anyone who donates their time, talents and efforts toward any community cause so we are proud to support Billi Kid and BSA in this.

On November 21st Brooklynite Gallery will open "Go Get Your Shinebox". This group show will feature over 100 works from artists all looking to answer the question of how to survive in these economic times by creating their own interpretation of a "Survival Box." Brooklynite Gallery has commissioned some of their favorite established and emerging artist to take on this challenge and the responses are breathtaking.

Artists such as Dain, Miss Bugs, PaperMonster, Anthony Lister, Ben Eine, Jace, Thundercut, Skewville, Ben Frost, Jon Burgerman, Specter, Skewville, Know Hope, Kosbe, Gaia, Ben Frost, Hush, Billi Kid, Cake and many more have all created a one of a kind box, each taking the concept of the show one step further. BSA Presents: Where The Wild Robots Are

Brooklyn Street Art, a fantastic blog site that we read religiously here at Abztract compiled not only photos, but a video AND interview with Abztract featured artists Chris and Veng from Robots Will Kill.

Chris and Veng spent two days painting a mural giving homage to "Where The Wild Things Are" book by giving their own interpretation of it by painting characters that are both influenced by the book and the imagination of these talented artists.

ABZTRACT @ MBP Urban Art Fair 2009

Abztract is headed to the NYC Urban Art Fair by MBP (Mark Batty Publishing). We will have a booth at the event where we will be displaying artwork and we will also have some merchandise for sale and some fun giveaways. So swing by, it is going to be a fantastic event involving some of our very own featured artists including Royce Bannon and Robots Will Kill. Hope to see you there.

Come on out on October 3 for the first MBP Urban Arts Fest! The two-part, one-day festival will go from 1PM-2AM. The whole day is about the thriving urban art community MBP has advocated since its inception. With skateboard demos and contests, live painting, music and DJs, photography and art installations and plenty of art and books for sale, there will be something for everyone!

We will be taking over and transforming the entire lower-half of Castle Braid (114 Troutman Street, Myrtle Ave/Bwy JMZ Train) in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The day’s first part runs from 1PM-9PM and is open to all ages; 9PM-2AM is 21 and over, featuring free beer and a dance party.

Our non-profit beneficiary is Art for Progress, an organization dedicated to supporting rising multi-discipline arts in New York City.

McCaig-Welles Gallery in Brooklyn is closing

We are sad to hear that McCaig-Welles Gallery in BK is closing down.  We received the news via email this evening and we actually feel really saddened by the news for multiple reasons.

McCaig-Welles was one of the first galleries to open up in Williamsburg (before it became the art community it is today). They opened up in 2002 and has since hosted some amazing artists and events. 

The most unfortunate is that we recently spoke with Melissa prior to having her newborn and she loved the artwork of our Abztract artist and had explored interest in hosting our artists into their gallery.  It is sad to hear that we will not have a chance to work with Melissa and the fantastic gallery. 

We wish her and the rest of the McCaig-Welles team (and family) all the best and thank them for the great artists they supported and value they added to the art community.
